Celebrating a Successful Back to School Night!

I survived Back to School Night!! It was my first one at the new school, and it went really well! I know this is a lifestyle blog, but since it is a teacher’s lifestyle, I want to post some of my tips for facilitating a great back to school night session in your classroom!

1. Prepare!!!

Parents want to know that we are responsible and prepared! Having notes for them to follow, either on a slideshow or a handout, presents a professional image and gives parents information to further help your students! I also had cookies out to add a personal touch and make them feel welcome! I like to show love through food!!! #thingssouthernwomensay πŸ˜‰

2. Use interactive technology

Going over curriculum and procedures can seem a little blah, so something simple on the SMART Board can help! My awesome principal gave me a cool hack I used for attendance! Instead of using a sign-in sheet for attendance, I had parents move their kid’s name to the opposite side of the board and then just took a picture! Less paperwork for me, more interaction for them! Win-win! Shoutout to my principal for the great idea!

3. Look your best!

A professional image is important, but you want to show the parents your personality of the same time! Check your dress length and make sure you are covered! Here is what I wore:

Dress: Brooks Brothers
Shoes: Nine West

Clutch: Michael Kors

Earrings: Kendra Scott

Necklace: Classic pearls

After Work

After we finished, Hubs and I celebrated by grabbing a drink and tiramisu at Ellis Island in downtown Edmond! If you have not been, you must check it out! Great coffee, dessert, wine, and beer! The ambiance is nice as well! Ben had a stout and I chose a nice Cabernet. We enjoyed relaxing for a bit and spending quality time together after our long days!! Although, I must brag on him! He came and helped me set up my cookies and new decor for Back to School Night! He is amazing!!! Here is a pic he took:

It’s a wrap! What do you like to do or see at your school’s back to school night? Let me know! πŸ€—

Like Mother, Like Daughter (in-law)

Y’all! I am obsessed with my mother-in-law! No exaggeration! Some of you know that I lost my mother at 14 and was adopted by my aunt and uncle after that. Well, my aunt/adoptive mom is great, but she lives in Washington state! Luckily, I married into a wonderful family and am super close to my mother-in-law! It makes the hard times without my late mother much easier! Plus, she lives right outside of Tulsa, so we see each other a couple times a month!

We stayed there this weekend and had a fabulous time! She made me a classroom sign and shopped for home/classroom decor all yesterday! Today Ben, his mom, and I went to church at Christ Church, a local Episcopal church. We loved it, and the priest comes from our home church in Edmond!! Small world!! I had to make this post, because our styles are so similar! We both wore floral dresses, Kendra Scott, and Rustic Cuff!! I love it! We have several legit matching pieces that I’m sure will make it on here at some point, but today we are just similar!

Fun fact: She is such a strong fighter! She is finishing up her chemo, and she never lets it get her down! Her hair is already growing back and looking fabulous!! Get it!!

My Back to School Beauty Musts

Wooooo!!! I survived the first full week of school, solar eclipse and all! It was amazing, and I am so thankful to be a part of this school and the district! It already feels like home! I wanted to make sure my look was ready to go for a new year. Though there are many things I like to do to get ready, I have 3 beauty musts that are essential for my back to school confidence!

1. Eyebrow and facial wax

I have a pretty good eyebrow shape, but some of my hairs do not want to cooperate! I have gotten cheap waxes during the poor college kid days, and they were never enough! This year, I upped the ante and went to the iBrow Studio in Edmond. Yes, it is a bit more costly, but the lady there gives a thorough shaping for half an hour to ensure perfection! I also had her wax my upper lip. Embarrassing, but necessary. I loved the final result!

2. Haircut

This one seems like a big duh, but I absolutely have to get a fresh trim for the school year! After being in Florida and rushing back for PD, I was less than proactive about scheduling my hair appointment, and Tiffany was booked up. I hate to cheat on my hairdresser, but I did it this one time. I went over to Premier Beauty Bar and had Paige do my hair! Because if I have to cheat on my wonderful hairdresser, I’m going to cheat with the salon that does the Thunder Girls! πŸ˜‰ Go big or go home!! Paige was amazing, my hair looked great, and we talked about God! I call that a win, and I will return to Tiffany at the end of September! 😊

3. Mani/Pedi

Last but not least, one of my favorite pleasures in life, the mani/pedi! I go to La Fleur at Quail Springs Mall! They always do a great job, it’s convenient if you also need to shop, and you get great deluxe options and FREE WINE!! Larry is awesome and does great work! Go book with him!! I got the La Fleur pedicure, which is a step up from the regular one. I also upgraded on the mani! The massage, wax, and scrubs are definitely worth it, especially for back to school!! I use the gel so it stays on longer, and I always make my accent nail match my toes! Just a personal preference!

Those are my big 3 for back to school beauty! What do y’all have to do every year? Or for non-teachers/students, what did you do during your school days? Let me know! And have a fabulous school year!!

Crazy Week Roundup!

Wooo!! This week has been a doozy! From professional development to the first day of school at both of my jobs, I am so thankful to have this weekend to play! This post offers snippets into the week and the fabulous weekend!

Wednesday

While getting ready for school to start, the 16th happened! Our wedding anniversary is on the 16th of January, and we are definitely that couple that still celebrates monthaversaries like a couple of teenagers! This week was also his first week of his law school semester, so we celebrated with pizza and Netflix! We didn’t even snap a pic! Hey, still counts! Happy 2 years and 7 months of marriage! 😍

Friday

First day of school!!! First day of school!!!! All the hard work has finally paid off!! We had an incredible first day, and I LOVE my students and colleagues! I also have the best administrative team EVER!! Shoutout to you if you are reading! πŸ‘πŸ»

Here I am, bright-eyed and bushy-tailed!! Btw, I am LOVING my Kendra Scott choker!!! The rose gold is gorgeous!
Saturday

Bless the Lord! Finally the weekend!!! Hubs and I were grateful for some quality time together!! We had some coffee at Hank’s in OKC and then headed over to Arcadia for Pops! Ben had never been before, and he loved it!! If you like burgers and soda and have never been, GO!! You can get some ridiculous sodas! There can be a wait, but we just sat outside to be served right away!

Tourist picture for the heck of it! Hard to tell, but I am wearing a super fun Dana Buchman tunic! It reminds me of the ’60s!

We ended the day with Heard on Hurd with my best friend Bri! It’s the music and food truck fair that happens once a month in downtown Edmond! Those awesome El Reno onion burgers were our choice, as well as Coit’s root beer!! Then, Bri and Ben got me hooked on this mini donut food truck! I just got vanilla glazed with sprinkles, and they rocked my world! Seriously, go to one of these events! They are the 3rd Saturday evening of every month! Always a great time!

Sunday

Ahhh, today was awesome as well! I think hats in church should be brought back! I saw it still being done at the Episcopal church in Sarasota, and we did come from the Church of England, AKA the land of awesome hats! I made it happen today!

This is later in Bricktown, but you get the picture!
Dress: One Faith Boutique in Yukon

Cardigan: Ann Taylor

Shoes: Nine West

Hat: A consignment shop in Sarasota! Yay vintage!!

Bag: Coach

Accessories: Rustic Cuff, Kate Spade, classic pearls, Fossil

After church lunch this week was Bourbon St. Cafe in Bricktown! We had never been and were super excited to try it! The speed of service was a little disappointing, considering it was not busy, and Ben had to get food remade because it came out cold, but the food ended up being pretty delicious and our server was super nice! I got the pork belly eggs Benedict and loved it! Plus, it was one of the few places I know of here that makes a great mint julep! What can I say, I’m old school!

I will have to do a bit of work tonight, but I can’t complain! I am writing this from the pedicure chair at La Fleur!!
I hope you guys had a great week and weekend! What did y’all do? Let me know in the comments!!

See you soon!!

Sunday Funday!Β

It really was a fun (and busy!!) Sunday! We started out with church as usual, and the message was particularly powerful today! Then, we met our friend Emma for brunch at Flip’s Wine Bar and Trattoria, right by Classen Curve! Let me tell you, it was amazing! One of the brunch specials was a carbonara breakfast stack! It mixed creamy pasta with breakfasty eggs, which sounds weird, but it was phenomenal! All three of us got it, and it was rave reviews all around! They also have great coffee!

When I brunch, I brunch hard, so I ended with a delicious “ooey gooey” chocolate cake paired with a nice Malbec! The cake literally melts in your mouth!!
After that, Emma and I needed (okay, wanted) some new Kendra Scott, so we just went on over and each bought a pair of earrings! Isn’t she the cutest! Her hairdo is #goals 😍
Here is a full outfit shot!

Dress: Xhilaration (from my amazing friend Jess!)
Shoes: Kate Spade

Earrings: Kendra Scott

Bracelets: Rustic Cuff

Bag: Coach

After all of that, the errands began, but I am so glad we took a break and had a #sundayfunday with a friend we hadn’t seen all summer!! Do y’all have any Sunday Funday rituals? Let me know!! Until next time!

Elle Woods Skirt!

Yesterday was the first official contracted day for people new to Edmond Public Schools! We had a day full of learning and preparation! I had already made my first impression at previous events, but it was still an important day at work!

On days like yesterday when I need a bit more oomph, I have a bit of a secret weapon! People have referred to it as my Elle Woods skirt, and I have to agree!!! It is not a skirt for every occasion, but it adds extra attitude while still being classy!

It is hard to tell, but there are little sequins on the skirt! It is from Loft, and I have had it for about 4 or 5 years! Definitely a staple!
Shirt: Ralph Lauren Sport

Shoes: Nine West

Bag: Kate Spade

Accessorized with pearls!

What is your go-to wardrobe piece for that extra punch? Let me know!! See you soon!

Country Club Event!

So, I work for an awesome school district! Since I am just joining Edmond Public Schools this year, I got to come to the new teacher reception at the beautiful Oak Tree Country Club!! Like, we will be joining sometime in the next decade! It is that awesome! Our amazing administrative team was all there, and it was such a great experience! I’m thankful to be employed in Edmond!

Summer is coming to a quick end, and this was likely my last summer event before school officially starts! Choosing an outfit was a trip, because it was a summer country club event that was also affiliated with my work! I needed something a little more summer-dressy and fun, while still showing professionalism! I have said it a million times on here, and I’ll say it again: Conservative dress is of the utmost importance in a professional setting! In reality, when you are an educator, pretty much everywhere is a professional setting! I posted before about never going wrong with a Lilly. Confession: I am obsessed with Lilly dresses and own 7! πŸ™ˆ Maybe it’s a Floridian thing! Here is what I chose:

Dress: Lilly Pulitzer, of course!
Cardigan: Eliza J

Sandals: Jack Rogers

Bag: Kate Spade

Accessorized with classic pearls and pink and green bracelets to match my dress!!

On the beauty side, I kept my makeup soft and pastel to match my whole look, and my curls are softer than usual. My mother in law taught me how to blow dry with a round brush, and I love the way it makes my curls a bit more tame without straightening them out! I did Big Sexy Hair to lift my roots, a heat protector spray, and an anti-frizz shine spray to style! Here is a close-up!

The event was a success, and I hope my look was too! Y’all have a fabulous evening!! Enjoy that last bit of summer, especially students and teachers!
