Change Your Negatives to Positives! ย

Hi there!! Before we start here, I want to throw out a DISCLAIMER: I am not speaking to people who have chemical imbalances and cannot combat negativity without some outside help. I know that mental illness is something different, and that needs to be validated. For all y’all struggling with it, I love you and am here for you. Okay, now we can get on with my thoughts!

I co-teach in 7th grade math, and we have been going over positive and negative numbers. When you are adding a positive and a negative integer together, you subtract, but keep the sign of the bigger number. Blah, blah, blah. I know, why am I giving you a math lesson right now? Because it totally applies to life!

When negative things happen, some of your positivity is obviously subtracted. However, we must make sure that the positive in our lives is always the bigger of the two so that our life stays joyful instead of crossing over to the dark side!

Yeah, okay. Easier said than done. Duh! No one ever said life was easy! We all have times in which positivity seems unattainable, but we can do our best to put positive spins on negative situations. I am going through some private stuff that is difficult (and keeping it out of social media) and I have to choose positivity in order to be successful, since it’s a situation I cannot control. In those instances, attitude needs to be a conscious choice because it’s the only part you can control. Just like I choose to go to the gym in the morning and to keep attending professional developments, I choose to keep my mindset healthy!

Since this is not my chosen place to talk about the super personal stuff, I will give an example of a professional negative I turned into a positive. I teach an evening ESL class to adults as one of my side hustles, and it has been difficult to get the majority of my class to be on time because of their jobs and/or kids. Not always their fault, but still a bit frustrating. I was thinking of ways to turn it around, so I decided to make the first 15 minutes of each class into a fun warm-up activity. Since they are learning about American culture as newcomers, I start with fun information and discussion questions about the obscure holiday of the day! Today was national tourism day, and the other day was hamburger day! This fixed my problem of having to start and stop my content lessons, because the beginning activities are more relaxed and conversation-based, while still allowing them to practice their language skills and cultural knowledge. It has also given some people the initiative to get to class on time, because they never want to miss the silly holidays and conversations! It’s a win-win, and an example of spinning a negative situation into a positive one!

If you’re still feeling down after all that, maybe a PSL will do the trick! Works for me!

How do you turn your negatives into positives? Let me know!! See you soon!

Pink Out!

Hey there!! ๐Ÿ˜„

So the past couple days at work have been pretty rad!! We had our pink out volleyball game and corresponding activities to raise money for cancer research! This cause is super important to me! My mom died of cancer, and I have family members currently battling it. I like to respond to pain in a proactive and positive way, so I was super excited for today!

Monday was hat day! $1 bought us the privilege of wearing a hat to school! I kept it chic and old school with my trusty Brooks Brothers floppy hat!

Today was the best day, because we got to wear all pink, AKA the world’s greatest color! There was a school volleyball game with raffles and fun concessions, all going to a great cause! I love all school events because my colleagues are the best ever! We always have a good time! #bossteachers

We’re kind of a big deal! ๐Ÿ˜‰

I didn’t win the cake raffle, but it was absolutely fabulous!! Woo!

My super pink outfit!
Shirt: Ralph Lauren

Thanks for reading! More fun to come later in the week!!

A Week of Awesome!

I had a pretty fabulous week/weekend! I chilled more than usual, but that is sometimes necessary for crazy busy people like me!

On Tuesday, we took a break and had a double date to the state fair with our friends Sarabeth and Dalton! They are my college friends and we are lucky enough to get to hang out regularly! It’s nice to have another married couple to cavort with! Here we are with some fried Oreos, my all time favorite fair food!

Ben prefers to be the photographer!
I kept it casual and classy with jeans, a Ralph Lauren button down, pearls, and a headband. That is about as casual as I like to get when I’m out at a big event! You never know who you could bump into!

Things we ate at the fair:

  • Watermelon pie (creamy and delicious)
  • Fried Oreos (what I wait for every year)
  • Fried cheese on a stick (as good as it sounds)
  • Captain Crunch corn dogs (weirdly delicious)
  • Chocolate covered bacon (anticlimactic)
  • Edible cookie dough (as if regular cookie dough isn’t…)
  • A few local wine samples (there was one that had a title I couldn’t say without giggling! ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ˜…)

It was such a blast, and so worth the full stomach! We did literally nothing but eat! No regrets!

I totally rested during the day, but in the evening, a group of us from work went to see our fellow teacher perform with her band! They were awesome!! Plus, we discovered Bedlam BBQ in OKC! The food was delicious, and there is a gorgeous back patio area with strung lights and pretty trees! None of us watching had been, so it was an awesome experience! Here is a pic:

Our friend Sarah was wonderful! Here is a link if you want to check out Bedlam BBQ:

Today was a true Sunday Funday! We started off with brunch at Park Avenue Grill in the Skirvin Hilton hotel. I read about their brunch in the Gazette over a year ago, and oh my lanta!! They did not exaggerate. I got the braised short rib Benedict, as recommended by various sources, and it was the best Benedict of my life! The meat, kale, pickled red onion, and bleu cheese hollandaise made it unforgettable! Plus, it was only $14!! ๐Ÿ˜ฒ

I also got a delicious latte, since I was not in the mood for anything stronger. They did a triple hazelnut vanilla latte, and it was to die for!

Dark lighting, but I was feeling pretty extra in my floppy hat! My goal was effortless elegance today!
Aside from the wonderful meal and ambiance, we got a stellar guitar performance by Edgar Cruz, who is pretty well known locally. He takes song requests from an extensive list, and I picked Scarborough Fair and Don’t Cry For me, Argentina! He did a beautiful job, and jokingly informed me I was too young to know those songs! #oldsoul

Then Ben studied while I went to an invigorating Zumba class at the Y! I always love my Sunday Zumba class! Later, Ben surprised me with a movie date to see the new Kingsman movie! We loved the first one and were not disappointed with the sequel! It was hilarious, and props to Ben for being so spontaneous! It was so spontaneous, I actually went out in my workout clothes! Oh well, sometimes that’s okay! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Thanks for being a part of my awesome week!! I can’t wait to share some more amazing things about this coming one! I am already excited for some fun activities! How was your week? Let me know!

Howdy! Happy Saturday!

Today is not just Saturday for us, because it’s the 16th. We got married on January 16, 2015 and we still celebrate every monthaversary! It keeps the magic in our marriage! ๐Ÿ˜

So I was told about this place by Nichols Hills called Bacon, where literally everything has bacon! I instantly knew what our date would be this month! We both LOVE bacon, and we were not disappointed! Let me take you through our courses so you can truly appreciate our dining experience!

Even the cocktails were bacon based! Ben had a bacon old fashioned while I went with the bacon whiskey smash! Both kept the integrity of the classic cocktails while adding a unique spin! Delicious!

We got their version of jalapeรฑo poppers! Yowza!!! They were so delicious!! The bacon, cream cheese, and jalapeรฑos were great together!

Ben got the special, an open faced sandwich with pork belly, grilled chicken, and pineapple salsa. I got the 4 cheese bacon grilled cheese!! Both were great, though I was partial to that grilled cheese! It was the second best I have ever had, and a close second at that!

My favorite part of every meal! This one did not disappoint! I had something called “triple bypass” and it was phenomenal!! It had a dense chocolate base, marshmallow fluff, caramel, and candied bacon!! Oh my lanta!!! Life-changing!! Ben had the bacon cheesecake, which was equally spectacular! It was a perfect end to an incredible meal!

Now we are back at home watching Mad Men! September monthaversary will be hard to beat!! Do y’all have any amazing recommendations in the metro? Also, what do y’all do to celebrate your relationships? Let me know! Until next time!

Labor Day Weekend: Part 2

I alreay shared the most significant part of my Labor Day Weekend in my last post, but I did plenty of other fun stuff! We split the weekend between Guymon and Amarillo and were with Ben’s old college buddies!

We got to Guymon on Saturday and went to a baby gender reveal party for two of Ben’s old friends!!! It is going to be a boy!! We are so excited for them to have their first baby!

I wore this to send off summer in style! Last  weekend for summery Lillys and Jacks!! #lillyandjacks #myOTP
We then had some awesome sushi for an INCREDIBLE price! I got a sashimi dinner for 20 bucks!! Panhandle prices are amazing!

Mmm! Osaka is awesome!
The next day we made a couple stops before the Big Texan! We got a couple things at the mall in Amarillo and went to the Cadillac Ranch! I had never been! You get to spray paint on old cars!

So cute! ๐Ÿ˜˜
Here is what I wore:

This is the most Texan stuff I own!
Dress: Tee for the Soul

Boots: Some brand from Journeys

Necklace: Kendra Scott

Clutch: Michael Kors

It was just a super fun weekend!! I always love Labor Day Weekend because it signifies a shift in seasons! I always get excited when the seasons change!

How was your LDW??

Big Texan Steak Challenge!!!

I am spending Labor Day Weekend in the Oklahoma panhandle and Amarillo, TX!! Since the Travel Channel’s Chowdown Countdown in 2010, I have been dreaming of trying the Big Texan 72 oz steak challenge! 4.5 pounds of steak plus sides in 1 hour! I have been known to put it away, but this is just on another level! Luckily, I had Hubs and his two best friends from college with me as moral support!! I still think it’s wussy that 3 big men didn’t join me! I talked a lot of trash on them! ๐Ÿ˜‰

It literally hung off the plate on both sides!!!
I am naturally a super slow eater, so I knew time would be my biggest obstacle. I tried my best to stay focused on the clock behind me and git r dun!!!

Did I do it????

NO. ๐Ÿ˜ญ I put away over 30 oz of steak, some salad, and the dinner roll. And I didn’t stop eating until the very end!! I was just too slow!

Am I still a winner??

Absolutely! I ate 2 pounds of steak and some of the sides at 125 pounds!! Though I had to fork over 72 bucks, it was well worth it for the experience! Only 1 in 10 do it! I was with two other men, one being exceptionally large, and they did not do it either! I still feel awesome that I went up there (literally, because you are on a stage in front of the whole restaurant) and did my best!! You best believe I will be back after some training!

It’s not over, Big Texan!!! #illbeback

Still got a free shirt!! Also, this is what I will look like a couple months prego!! ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚
No regrets!! Read later to see the rest of the awesome weekend!!
