Happy Birthday to Me!!Β

Hey, y’all!! It is good to be back! The last 6 weeks or so have been insane and filled with some unfortunate situations. I took a couple weeks off blogging just to catch up with life, but I’m back and ready to go! 😊

Today is Thanksgiving, and I wish you all a happy one! I will post about our family festivities later! Tuesday, however, was my birthday! They say to never ask a lady her age, but I’ll just tell you that I turned 26! I am actually so excited to get closer to 30! Many struggle with aging, but I see age as stability and wisdom!

Not bad for 26! Loving the new MAC lipstick I got for my birthday! I’m wearing Ruby Woo!

I was lucky enough to have my birthday on my “Friday” before the holiday weekend! I started with a work gathering at Louie’s to celebrate the break! Then, we got to my intimate but fabulous birthday celebration at Sushi Neko! If you live in the OKC Metro and have not been, GO NOW! It is my favorite restaurant in the area! We had four friends meet us, and we had a great time! I definitely did not get enough pictures, but here’s what I have!

This was our appetizer! Lobster and other goodies! So delicious!

My favorite roll of all time, the Lifesaver! It has the raw salmon and tuna I love, and the crowning jewel on the inside is TEMPURA BACON! The lemon on top adds the perfect tang! I have eaten lots of sushi in many places over the years, and this continues to be my favorite!

We are a pretty hot walrus couple! Don’t tell my old etiquette class or my mom! πŸ˜‚

Not pictured: My all-time favorite dessert, tempura ice cream! I was so excited that I forgot to take a pic before diving in! #bloggerfail

After that, a few of us went over to Nancy’s 57th St. Lighthouse for some karaoke! I love going there, because the drinks are reasonable, the seats are super comfy, and karaoke is every day!! I absolutely love to sing, even though I am not quite Broadway status! πŸ˜› It was a great time! My friend Jess and I took it back to our college days and sang ridiculous duets all night! We used to go to Buffalo Wild Wings in college and sing bad renditions of early 2000s pop songs! It was a nice trip down memory lane, even if we were the only ones who thought so! πŸ˜‚

It was such a great birthday! I’m excited to see what 26 holds! Now I’m off to gorge on turkey!!

Happy Thanksgiving!

First Blogger Collaboration!

Hey, y’all! I am so excited to say that this post involves another lovely lady from our WordPress community! We are both pretty new to the scene, and were already friends from college before starting our blogs! We decided to hang out yesterday and do a photo together while talking about upcoming collaborations!

Emily of The Muse’s Melody and I went over to Ellis Island for some coffee and sweets first thing Saturday morning. If you haven’t tried it yet, it’s in Downtown Edmond on Broadway, and it’s delicious! The morning was cool and overcast, making it the perfect day for a steaming cup! I had a pumpkin pie latte and tiramisu, while Emily went for the iced mocha. My latte had all the pumpkin pie goodness without being as syrupy as Starbucks! It’s okay, Starbs! I still love you! πŸ˜‰

Whoops! I was so excited that I forgot to take a pic until after I drank it! πŸ˜‚
Here is the photo that our lovely barista took of us!

Her red dress with the leather jacket totally shows off her trendy, alternative style! I just love her look! I went with a less preppy look than usual, because I was in the mood for something a little more…hip? I guess? I also branched out a bit from my usual favorite designers while keeping some (Kendra Scott and Brooks Brothers) in my outfit! Change can be fun! Here’s who I’m wearing:
Shirt: Ambiance Apparel (I grab many of my basic t-shirts at Ross!)

Cardi: Jody (found at a western shop in Stockyards City!)

Jeans: Levi’s

Booties: Clark’s

Hat: Brooks Brothers

Necklace: Kendra Scott

Watch: Fossil

Not featured: Cream Fossil bag

We had a great time, and look forward to collaborating in the future! It is so fun for us to be new together!! Please go check her out and follow her blog:

A Weekend in the Country

(Name that musical!)

Last week was all fun in the city, but the weekend was pure country!

City

I love living right outside of a capital city, and my coworkers and I made the most of that last Thursday! It was the science teacher’s birthday, and teachers got half off at the Melting Pot in September!! We had a great time, and the food was delicious! It is so nice to truly get along with my colleagues! We had the most ridiculous conversations the entire time! So much fun!

I got my favorite cocktail of theirs! It’s called the Yin Yang Martini, and it’s pure chocolate heaven!
Here we are rocking out Bricktown!! I’m wearing a skirt and jacket set from Express!! This outfit has never failed to earn me compliments!
Country

Over the weekend, we traded the usual fun in the city for some time in Beggs with the in-laws. They just moved from the suburbs to an adorable country house and we got to see it! It was the best sleep ever because it was so quiet! There was no wifi, so we just relaxed and read! Such a nice change from the usual! One of the best parts was the tiny hamburger stand we visited both days! It looked like something from a ’50s movie! The food was delicious, and the shakes were the real deal! None of that powder crap!

I went with a simple white button down and jeans! I still didn’t fit in! Maybe it was the Sperrys and the Kate Spade? πŸ˜‚

Though we are suburbanites who frequent the city, we equally appreciate a good weekend in the country! It was just what we needed to recharge?

Where do you prefer? City or country?

Until next time!

Change Your Negatives to Positives! Β

Hi there!! Before we start here, I want to throw out a DISCLAIMER: I am not speaking to people who have chemical imbalances and cannot combat negativity without some outside help. I know that mental illness is something different, and that needs to be validated. For all y’all struggling with it, I love you and am here for you. Okay, now we can get on with my thoughts!

I co-teach in 7th grade math, and we have been going over positive and negative numbers. When you are adding a positive and a negative integer together, you subtract, but keep the sign of the bigger number. Blah, blah, blah. I know, why am I giving you a math lesson right now? Because it totally applies to life!

When negative things happen, some of your positivity is obviously subtracted. However, we must make sure that the positive in our lives is always the bigger of the two so that our life stays joyful instead of crossing over to the dark side!

Yeah, okay. Easier said than done. Duh! No one ever said life was easy! We all have times in which positivity seems unattainable, but we can do our best to put positive spins on negative situations. I am going through some private stuff that is difficult (and keeping it out of social media) and I have to choose positivity in order to be successful, since it’s a situation I cannot control. In those instances, attitude needs to be a conscious choice because it’s the only part you can control. Just like I choose to go to the gym in the morning and to keep attending professional developments, I choose to keep my mindset healthy!

Since this is not my chosen place to talk about the super personal stuff, I will give an example of a professional negative I turned into a positive. I teach an evening ESL class to adults as one of my side hustles, and it has been difficult to get the majority of my class to be on time because of their jobs and/or kids. Not always their fault, but still a bit frustrating. I was thinking of ways to turn it around, so I decided to make the first 15 minutes of each class into a fun warm-up activity. Since they are learning about American culture as newcomers, I start with fun information and discussion questions about the obscure holiday of the day! Today was national tourism day, and the other day was hamburger day! This fixed my problem of having to start and stop my content lessons, because the beginning activities are more relaxed and conversation-based, while still allowing them to practice their language skills and cultural knowledge. It has also given some people the initiative to get to class on time, because they never want to miss the silly holidays and conversations! It’s a win-win, and an example of spinning a negative situation into a positive one!

If you’re still feeling down after all that, maybe a PSL will do the trick! Works for me!

How do you turn your negatives into positives? Let me know!! See you soon!

Snippets of Me

Being a new blogger is kind of weird, because I have so much to say, but little idea of where to begin. I did a little introduction post, but I’ll give you a bigger window into my life this time, with snippets and pictures! πŸ™‚

I’m a wife to my lovely husband, Benjamin! He is a dashing law student with plenty of Southern charm! I can’t complain about thee Weasley hair either! πŸ˜‰ We met in college at the library computer lab and are coming up on our 2 year wedding anniversary! #Rosefam

We are both major Harry Potter nerds, so it’s good that Ron and Hermione Halloween costumes go well with our looks!

The best part of being Hermione is not having to style the frizz-bomb on my head! πŸ˜‰

We have a baby! Meet Bounce the Sheltie! He is our world!

How YOU doin?

I am originally from Sarasota, Florida, but I’ve lived in Oklahoma City for 6 years. I actually moved there to study dance at OCU’s famous program, but decided I liked teaching a lot better, so here I am as a special education teacher!

I am also working on my first Master’s degree in Bilingual Education! People are surprised when they hear I’m PhD bound, because I’m so bubbly! In the classroom, I call my brain my secret weapon, but I’ll share my secret with all y’all! πŸ˜‰

You will see many types of posts on here, since this is a blog about my lifestyle! I can assure you, though, that they will all be filled with class and sass!
