Quest for the Best: Nail Edition 2

Hey y’all!

My quest for the best nail salon in the metro continues! Thank goodness, because I was about a week overdue! Life just gets so busy! Today I went to the Polished Nail Salon in Chisholm Creek! There’s one in Yukon as well. They have received recognition for their excellence, and everything in Chisholm Creek is so hot right now! My last nail review was in the same area, and it was gonna be a tough one to beat.

The verdict is in, and while I still prefer Urbane, I had an awesome experience at Polished! I wanted the shattered glass nails that I’ve seen on their Insta, but the lady who specializes in it was out, so I went with chrome and rhinestones instead, which I’m not mad about. I had been wanting to do a chrome accent nail for a while. I also chose shorter nails this time, since the stiletto nails were kind of driving me insane with the amount of typing I do! I’ll do long ones again soon. Here is the gorgeous finished product:

The atmosphere was also nice! The mint color on the walls went well with the sparkly chandeliers! Perhaps the decor inspired my nails today!

I was also super into the fact that it was 55 bucks! That is an awesome price since I got extras! The only thing is that I wished they would have offered me a drink, even if it was just water. Call me extra, but I’m used to a glass of wine at the nail salon. Oh well, we can’t always have it all! I probably should have just asked! ๐Ÿ˜‚

The numbers are in!

Ambience: 9

Friendliness: 9

Quality of Service: 10

Price: 10

It was an awesome time, and I’m going to enjoy these nails for the next 2 weeks! ๐Ÿ˜Š

Talk to y’all Sunday! (For real this time! I’m finally getting good at working this blog into my schedule! #movinonup )

OKC peeps, comment with your fave salon! Maybe I’ll try it next!

Hump Day!

Hey y’all! It’s hump day! Wednesdays are kind of bittersweet to me. At the end of the day, we are officially over the hump and on the downward slope to the weekend. Getting through the day, however, can be a ride on the struggle bus.

I feel like Mondays, though sometimes dreary, are a powerful reset button. It’s a chance to start the week off right and crush it! Since summer started, I have been working on the goals that I put on the back burner during the end of the busy school year, such as quiet time with God, exercise, housework, and this blog, among other things I will announce later. ๐Ÿ˜‰ This Monday was awesome! I did my devotional and Bible study first thing in the morning, went to kickboxing, grocery shopped for the week, started my weekly cleaning project, cooked a delicious dinner, went to Barre 3 with my friends, and did some professional development reading. Tuesday was a similar day, but with a full day of professional development. Today, however, was more of a struggle. It was hard to wake up early for devotional time before my day of professional development. I was tempted to watch TV instead of pushing through cardio dance and then order in instead of cooking the healthy meal I planned. I had to use one of my mom’s favorite phrases to push through:

Being an adult is doing what you don’t want to do when you don’t want to do it.

I listened to my mom’s voice, which frequently finds its way into my head, and I did it all anyway.

Does my story sound familiar to anyone? Does your Monday motivation turn “meh” about midweek? If so, you are not alone! It’s normal to hit the “hump slump,” but it’s not okay to stay there! Your responsibilities don’t end because you’re tired, and self-improvement can’t happen if you grow stagnant after a couple of days. You need consistency to be successful, which means doing the things you know you need to do even when you don’t feel like it.

At this point, you may be thinking that I’m a total slavedriver and that you deserve a rest. If that’s you right now, you’re correct! You DO deserve a rest! As for the other part…hehe, no comment! ๐Ÿ˜‰ I’m not saying to just push through constantly and never give yourself a reward or a breather! We all need to recharge sometimes. The difference is that you recharge and then get back to work. It’s far too easy to justify laziness to yourself and extend your break to the point of irresponsibility. After I did my professional development sessions today, I met my husband at our favorite coffee shop, had coffee and a delectable croissant, and just chilled for an hour. That was a lovely treat for me, and I felt rejuvenated when it was time to go to the gym!

Here I am with that latte! Yum!! If you haven’t gone to Hank’s in Midtown, check them out! Great coffee with fun and knowledgeable baristas!

Here’s the bottom line: Push through hump day, do what you need to do, but allow yourself a bit of time to recharge when you’re feeling slumpy. I hope y’all had a great Wednesday! You are on the downward slope now, so keep your chins up!

What are your tips for getting through the “hump slump?” Let me know in the comments!

Holiday Fun

Howdy!! I hope y’all had an amazing holiday season! Mine is not quite over, as we are celebrating with my side of the family in Washington now, but we had a wonderful time with Ben’s side!

For Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, we went to Beggs with Ben’s immediate family. We rocked our Christmas sweaters quite nicely!

Ben’s is hilarious, and we just randomly found it at Target!!

We also had a great time with presents! We got Mama and sister Kendra Scott necklaces, and they were all about it! Our big gift was pretty cool too!

Now we can make pots of coffee OR use K-cups with ONE APPLIANCE!! You know you are an adult when that is super exciting!! We got a ton of coffee and new tumblers to go with it, which was super awesome!! Thanks, Mama/Uncle/Uncle’s GF!!!

We got to drink Glรผhwein, eat a delicious meal, and hang out with loved ones! We even watched It’s a Wonderful Life! It was a fabulous Christmas!

I’m currently writing this from my brother’s beautiful home in Seattle! My best friend from high school is picking us up and bringing us to Port Angeles, where I spent 3 years of my teenage life! I can’t wait to share it with all of you!

Please drop a comment and let me know how your Christmas was! Or if you celebrate something else, same thing! ๐Ÿ˜Š

Until next time!

Hold Out for your Break

Howdy!! ๐Ÿค—

Today I am going to get just slightly personal, all in the name of giving people some hope! Many of us come across a season of life that leaves a legacy of hardship and pain. They say those things come in threes, and there seems to be a snowball effect once they start. This is often when people say things like, “I just can’t catch a break.” Weirdly enough, dim though it may seem, this is the point where we need to think the exact opposite.

Let me take you back to just this fall. First, my dad died. I’m adopted, and this is my adoptive dad who took me in and raised me after my own could not. Both of my birth parents died years ago, and the (only) crappy part about adoption is going through that twice. The good news is that the death ended his year and a half of cancer, and he is frolicking around up above with no pain. The selfish part of me, however, is still not cool with it.

You may be thinking that while that situation is terrible, at least it’s just one thing. Well, not even a week later, I totaled my car and it was so my fault. No one was injured, thank God, but while insurance took for-literally-ever (okay, figuratively) to settle, we had to go around with one car on completely different schedules. It happened to be our, ahem, senior citizen car as well, as I totaled the 2016. I also got a ticket, on top of the deductible and having to buy a new car. It was rough!

Yeah, okay, but it comes in threes. Where’s the third? I guess this one was technically the first. We had identity theft this fall and ended up with $48 in our bank account. My bank didn’t even notice, or think it was weird that someone took THOUSANDS of dollars out for various wire transfer things that I don’t entirely understand.

I am not telling you all of this to complain, but to let you know that I felt that there were no breaks this fall, and some of you may be feeling the exact same way. However, I chose to remain positive. I kept praying, and never stopped working hard. My goal was to be the best I could be and to believe that this was only a passing season. Luckily for me, I was right, and you will be too if you keep a positive attitude and manifest happy energy!

First, the bank gave us a full refund with barely any hoops to jump through! Having a responsible record has its perks! Then, much later on, we got an insane end of the year special on a new car, and because of certain paperwork, we were able to go through with it before insurance finished their stuff! The deal was better than what we got on our last car, and our monthly payment for the 2017 Honda Civic is LESS than the 2016 we had! Our interest rate went way down. Again, responsible decisions pay off, especially when they affect your credit score! ๐Ÿ˜Š

Finally, there were some appliances we were going to buy that just showed up to us out of the blue, which changes our budget for the better! That was just the icing on the cake!

My story is definitely not the only one that involves someone catching a break after a long time! I truly believe that being positive and open really helped move things along. Your prayers are listened to, so don’t give up, even if your season of hardship is long. It always comes back up! Are things perfect now? Absolutely not! I still miss my dad like crazy, but I am still thankful for a slowly healing heart and a bucket full of blessings in my life. I’m sure we will all have sad times again, but they never stay that way. If you are in the midst of those times, hold out for your break! It’s coming!

By the way, here’s my new car! I am a Honda Civic girl all the way! The only change I made was from 2016 to 2017!

I hope this cheered you up! Thanks for reading! And please reach out to me if you feel like things are just too bad! I’d love to talk!

North Park Mall

One of my favorite things is when I learn about a place I’ve never heard of in the city I’ve lived in for over 7 years! Last night, we had the opportunity to see a friend perform in an independent film! It was being shown at North Park Cinema in North Park Mall, on the north side of Oklahoma City. It was a tiny indoor shopping center with a charming 90s style movie theatre. The shops were already closed, but we will definitely be back to check it out in daylight, and possibly brunch at their Rococo location! They are supposed to have a killer cruise ship style brunch buffet, as opposed to the more traditional east coast style brunch at the Penn and 28th location!

Here I am by the cute little fountain! I love how the best picture we got was the one where you can’t see my face! ๐Ÿ˜‚ I went for a fun fall look that took me from church to brunch to an indie film! This look can go anywhere! I just got the dress this weekend at Black Scintilla in Midtown! It is such a fun boutique, and the staff made it a wonderful experience! I’m so excited to show you my other dress from there in another post!!
Everything else I’m wearing is super old, and most of it is not even name brand, but I love it! I have to remind myself that name brands aren’t everything! ๐Ÿ˜‰

The movie ended up being awesome, and our friend did a great job! It was nice to have a fun outing before the Monday grind!

Now, it’s back to the grind for me! See you next time!

Rolling Ice Cream and Crepes

What the heck is this?!?! The answer to that question is a relatively new (at least to Oklahoma) dessert trend: Rolled ice cream! Lychee rolled ice cream with mango boba and coconut flakes, to be specific! I’d heard of it and passed by the new shop, but we didn’t try it until yesterday afternoon, while we were taking full advantage of fall break! It didn’t disappoint!

The place is called Rolling Ice Cream and Crepes, and it’s off 2nd and Bryant in the shopping center with Which Wich, which was why we were there for lunch in the first place. I remembered that I wanted to try rolled ice cream, so we stopped in for dessert! The first thing we noticed was how cute and colorful it was!

Dessert is probably my second favorite thing after Jesus (duh), and eating dessert in a happy environment makes it even better!!! The only thing that would make it better is PINK!
After we appreciated the ambiance, we got to savor that flavor, baby!! The ice cream was delicious! It’s a bit harder than normal ice cream, probably to keep the rolled shape, but the taste did not suffer! I will say that the medium was pretty darn big! We probably would have been fine with smalls! Next time, we want to try one of the ice cream filled crepes!! Mmmm!!

Y’all should go and check it out! We will definitely be back!

See you next time!

Pink Out!

Hey there!! ๐Ÿ˜„

So the past couple days at work have been pretty rad!! We had our pink out volleyball game and corresponding activities to raise money for cancer research! This cause is super important to me! My mom died of cancer, and I have family members currently battling it. I like to respond to pain in a proactive and positive way, so I was super excited for today!

Monday was hat day! $1 bought us the privilege of wearing a hat to school! I kept it chic and old school with my trusty Brooks Brothers floppy hat!

Today was the best day, because we got to wear all pink, AKA the world’s greatest color! There was a school volleyball game with raffles and fun concessions, all going to a great cause! I love all school events because my colleagues are the best ever! We always have a good time! #bossteachers

We’re kind of a big deal! ๐Ÿ˜‰

I didn’t win the cake raffle, but it was absolutely fabulous!! Woo!

My super pink outfit!
Shirt: Ralph Lauren
