A Week of Awesome!

I had a pretty fabulous week/weekend! I chilled more than usual, but that is sometimes necessary for crazy busy people like me!

On Tuesday, we took a break and had a double date to the state fair with our friends Sarabeth and Dalton! They are my college friends and we are lucky enough to get to hang out regularly! It’s nice to have another married couple to cavort with! Here we are with some fried Oreos, my all time favorite fair food!

Ben prefers to be the photographer!
I kept it casual and classy with jeans, a Ralph Lauren button down, pearls, and a headband. That is about as casual as I like to get when I’m out at a big event! You never know who you could bump into!

Things we ate at the fair:

  • Watermelon pie (creamy and delicious)
  • Fried Oreos (what I wait for every year)
  • Fried cheese on a stick (as good as it sounds)
  • Captain Crunch corn dogs (weirdly delicious)
  • Chocolate covered bacon (anticlimactic)
  • Edible cookie dough (as if regular cookie dough isn’t…)
  • A few local wine samples (there was one that had a title I couldn’t say without giggling! ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ˜…)

It was such a blast, and so worth the full stomach! We did literally nothing but eat! No regrets!

I totally rested during the day, but in the evening, a group of us from work went to see our fellow teacher perform with her band! They were awesome!! Plus, we discovered Bedlam BBQ in OKC! The food was delicious, and there is a gorgeous back patio area with strung lights and pretty trees! None of us watching had been, so it was an awesome experience! Here is a pic:

Our friend Sarah was wonderful! Here is a link if you want to check out Bedlam BBQ:

Today was a true Sunday Funday! We started off with brunch at Park Avenue Grill in the Skirvin Hilton hotel. I read about their brunch in the Gazette over a year ago, and oh my lanta!! They did not exaggerate. I got the braised short rib Benedict, as recommended by various sources, and it was the best Benedict of my life! The meat, kale, pickled red onion, and bleu cheese hollandaise made it unforgettable! Plus, it was only $14!! ๐Ÿ˜ฒ

I also got a delicious latte, since I was not in the mood for anything stronger. They did a triple hazelnut vanilla latte, and it was to die for!

Dark lighting, but I was feeling pretty extra in my floppy hat! My goal was effortless elegance today!
Aside from the wonderful meal and ambiance, we got a stellar guitar performance by Edgar Cruz, who is pretty well known locally. He takes song requests from an extensive list, and I picked Scarborough Fair and Don’t Cry For me, Argentina! He did a beautiful job, and jokingly informed me I was too young to know those songs! #oldsoul

If you want more information on this awesome performer, go here:

Then Ben studied while I went to an invigorating Zumba class at the Y! I always love my Sunday Zumba class! Later, Ben surprised me with a movie date to see the new Kingsman movie! We loved the first one and were not disappointed with the sequel! It was hilarious, and props to Ben for being so spontaneous! It was so spontaneous, I actually went out in my workout clothes! Oh well, sometimes that’s okay! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Thanks for being a part of my awesome week!! I can’t wait to share some more amazing things about this coming one! I am already excited for some fun activities! How was your week? Let me know!

Howdy! Happy Saturday!

Today is not just Saturday for us, because it’s the 16th. We got married on January 16, 2015 and we still celebrate every monthaversary! It keeps the magic in our marriage! ๐Ÿ˜

So I was told about this place by Nichols Hills called Bacon, where literally everything has bacon! I instantly knew what our date would be this month! We both LOVE bacon, and we were not disappointed! Let me take you through our courses so you can truly appreciate our dining experience!

Even the cocktails were bacon based! Ben had a bacon old fashioned while I went with the bacon whiskey smash! Both kept the integrity of the classic cocktails while adding a unique spin! Delicious!

We got their version of jalapeรฑo poppers! Yowza!!! They were so delicious!! The bacon, cream cheese, and jalapeรฑos were great together!

Ben got the special, an open faced sandwich with pork belly, grilled chicken, and pineapple salsa. I got the 4 cheese bacon grilled cheese!! Both were great, though I was partial to that grilled cheese! It was the second best I have ever had, and a close second at that!

My favorite part of every meal! This one did not disappoint! I had something called “triple bypass” and it was phenomenal!! It had a dense chocolate base, marshmallow fluff, caramel, and candied bacon!! Oh my lanta!!! Life-changing!! Ben had the bacon cheesecake, which was equally spectacular! It was a perfect end to an incredible meal!

Now we are back at home watching Mad Men! September monthaversary will be hard to beat!! Do y’all have any amazing recommendations in the metro? Also, what do y’all do to celebrate your relationships? Let me know! Until next time!

Labor Day Weekend: Part 2

I alreay shared the most significant part of my Labor Day Weekend in my last post, but I did plenty of other fun stuff! We split the weekend between Guymon and Amarillo and were with Ben’s old college buddies!

We got to Guymon on Saturday and went to a baby gender reveal party for two of Ben’s old friends!!! It is going to be a boy!! We are so excited for them to have their first baby!

I wore this to send off summer in style! Last  weekend for summery Lillys and Jacks!! #lillyandjacks #myOTP
We then had some awesome sushi for an INCREDIBLE price! I got a sashimi dinner for 20 bucks!! Panhandle prices are amazing!

Mmm! Osaka is awesome!
The next day we made a couple stops before the Big Texan! We got a couple things at the mall in Amarillo and went to the Cadillac Ranch! I had never been! You get to spray paint on old cars!

So cute! ๐Ÿ˜˜
Here is what I wore:

This is the most Texan stuff I own!
Dress: Tee for the Soul

Boots: Some brand from Journeys

Necklace: Kendra Scott

Clutch: Michael Kors

It was just a super fun weekend!! I always love Labor Day Weekend because it signifies a shift in seasons! I always get excited when the seasons change!

How was your LDW??

Big Texan Steak Challenge!!!

I am spending Labor Day Weekend in the Oklahoma panhandle and Amarillo, TX!! Since the Travel Channel’s Chowdown Countdown in 2010, I have been dreaming of trying the Big Texan 72 oz steak challenge! 4.5 pounds of steak plus sides in 1 hour! I have been known to put it away, but this is just on another level! Luckily, I had Hubs and his two best friends from college with me as moral support!! I still think it’s wussy that 3 big men didn’t join me! I talked a lot of trash on them! ๐Ÿ˜‰

It literally hung off the plate on both sides!!!
I am naturally a super slow eater, so I knew time would be my biggest obstacle. I tried my best to stay focused on the clock behind me and git r dun!!!

Did I do it????

NO. ๐Ÿ˜ญ I put away over 30 oz of steak, some salad, and the dinner roll. And I didn’t stop eating until the very end!! I was just too slow!

Am I still a winner??

Absolutely! I ate 2 pounds of steak and some of the sides at 125 pounds!! Though I had to fork over 72 bucks, it was well worth it for the experience! Only 1 in 10 do it! I was with two other men, one being exceptionally large, and they did not do it either! I still feel awesome that I went up there (literally, because you are on a stage in front of the whole restaurant) and did my best!! You best believe I will be back after some training!

It’s not over, Big Texan!!! #illbeback

Still got a free shirt!! Also, this is what I will look like a couple months prego!! ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚
No regrets!! Read later to see the rest of the awesome weekend!!

Celebrating a Successful Back to School Night!

I survived Back to School Night!! It was my first one at the new school, and it went really well! I know this is a lifestyle blog, but since it is a teacher’s lifestyle, I want to post some of my tips for facilitating a great back to school night session in your classroom!

1. Prepare!!!

Parents want to know that we are responsible and prepared! Having notes for them to follow, either on a slideshow or a handout, presents a professional image and gives parents information to further help your students! I also had cookies out to add a personal touch and make them feel welcome! I like to show love through food!!! #thingssouthernwomensay ๐Ÿ˜‰

2. Use interactive technology

Going over curriculum and procedures can seem a little blah, so something simple on the SMART Board can help! My awesome principal gave me a cool hack I used for attendance! Instead of using a sign-in sheet for attendance, I had parents move their kid’s name to the opposite side of the board and then just took a picture! Less paperwork for me, more interaction for them! Win-win! Shoutout to my principal for the great idea!

3. Look your best!

A professional image is important, but you want to show the parents your personality of the same time! Check your dress length and make sure you are covered! Here is what I wore:

Dress: Brooks Brothers
Shoes: Nine West

Clutch: Michael Kors

Earrings: Kendra Scott

Necklace: Classic pearls

After Work

After we finished, Hubs and I celebrated by grabbing a drink and tiramisu at Ellis Island in downtown Edmond! If you have not been, you must check it out! Great coffee, dessert, wine, and beer! The ambiance is nice as well! Ben had a stout and I chose a nice Cabernet. We enjoyed relaxing for a bit and spending quality time together after our long days!! Although, I must brag on him! He came and helped me set up my cookies and new decor for Back to School Night! He is amazing!!! Here is a pic he took:

It’s a wrap! What do you like to do or see at your school’s back to school night? Let me know! ๐Ÿค—

Like Mother, Like Daughter (in-law)

Y’all! I am obsessed with my mother-in-law! No exaggeration! Some of you know that I lost my mother at 14 and was adopted by my aunt and uncle after that. Well, my aunt/adoptive mom is great, but she lives in Washington state! Luckily, I married into a wonderful family and am super close to my mother-in-law! It makes the hard times without my late mother much easier! Plus, she lives right outside of Tulsa, so we see each other a couple times a month!

We stayed there this weekend and had a fabulous time! She made me a classroom sign and shopped for home/classroom decor all yesterday! Today Ben, his mom, and I went to church at Christ Church, a local Episcopal church. We loved it, and the priest comes from our home church in Edmond!! Small world!! I had to make this post, because our styles are so similar! We both wore floral dresses, Kendra Scott, and Rustic Cuff!! I love it! We have several legit matching pieces that I’m sure will make it on here at some point, but today we are just similar!

Fun fact: She is such a strong fighter! She is finishing up her chemo, and she never lets it get her down! Her hair is already growing back and looking fabulous!! Get it!!

My Back to School Beauty Musts

Wooooo!!! I survived the first full week of school, solar eclipse and all! It was amazing, and I am so thankful to be a part of this school and the district! It already feels like home! I wanted to make sure my look was ready to go for a new year. Though there are many things I like to do to get ready, I have 3 beauty musts that are essential for my back to school confidence!

1. Eyebrow and facial wax

I have a pretty good eyebrow shape, but some of my hairs do not want to cooperate! I have gotten cheap waxes during the poor college kid days, and they were never enough! This year, I upped the ante and went to the iBrow Studio in Edmond. Yes, it is a bit more costly, but the lady there gives a thorough shaping for half an hour to ensure perfection! I also had her wax my upper lip. Embarrassing, but necessary. I loved the final result!

2. Haircut

This one seems like a big duh, but I absolutely have to get a fresh trim for the school year! After being in Florida and rushing back for PD, I was less than proactive about scheduling my hair appointment, and Tiffany was booked up. I hate to cheat on my hairdresser, but I did it this one time. I went over to Premier Beauty Bar and had Paige do my hair! Because if I have to cheat on my wonderful hairdresser, I’m going to cheat with the salon that does the Thunder Girls! ๐Ÿ˜‰ Go big or go home!! Paige was amazing, my hair looked great, and we talked about God! I call that a win, and I will return to Tiffany at the end of September! ๐Ÿ˜Š

3. Mani/Pedi

Last but not least, one of my favorite pleasures in life, the mani/pedi! I go to La Fleur at Quail Springs Mall! They always do a great job, it’s convenient if you also need to shop, and you get great deluxe options and FREE WINE!! Larry is awesome and does great work! Go book with him!! I got the La Fleur pedicure, which is a step up from the regular one. I also upgraded on the mani! The massage, wax, and scrubs are definitely worth it, especially for back to school!! I use the gel so it stays on longer, and I always make my accent nail match my toes! Just a personal preference!

Those are my big 3 for back to school beauty! What do y’all have to do every year? Or for non-teachers/students, what did you do during your school days? Let me know! And have a fabulous school year!!
