OK Gazette Best of OKC

Hey y’all!!

So I’m struggling to stick with my blogging schedule with my now 4 jobs! Lordy! I apologize for being late!

Anyway, as promised on my Instagram (@glitterandgrades), I’ll tell y’all about my OK Gazette best of challenge! Every year, the Oklahoma Gazette, which happens to be my favorite info source for local happenings, does a best of OKC list and the readers vote! I pretty much feel like a local at this point, as I’ve lived in the metro for over 8 years now. This is my final year in OKC, but those deets are for another blog post. πŸ˜‰ I wanted to go out with a bang and hit up every spot, even the ones I’ve been to a thousand times. Experiencing the city I love with a fresh outlook seemed to be a perfect way to end this great run! I have until July to do it!

I even made a list!

I already got one this week! I went to The Pump, which was voted the best neighborhood bar! It happens to be around my neighborhood, which makes it even cooler! It’s an old gas station turned awesome bar with awesome bar food! The outside patio area is gorgeous and the year-round Christmas lights add just the right amount of kitsch.

My roomie and I love to go on Mondays because it’s karaoke on their patio! What we lack in talent, we make up for in spirit! πŸ˜‚ We went on Monday and had a great time!

Because I forgot to get more than this picture! πŸ™ˆ I was drinking the Tallgrass key lime beer! So good and perfect for the last official days of summer!

Stay tuned as I keep y’all posted about this bucket list!

Comment and tell me what your favorite place in OKC is! 😊

Bleu Garten OKC

So Midtown is one of my favorite districts in OKC! The restaurants and businesses are thriving down there, and one of the best things about it is Bleu Garten, an outside area that features different food trucks and delicious adult beverages!

Tonight was a summer kickoff party introducing the new cocktail menu! I ordered a fruity, tequila-based drink called the Midtown Sunset! I highly recommend it! Ben got a beer, as usual! They had the Filipino Fusion food truck tonight, which is one of my favorites. I had already eaten, but the dessert was insane! The Halo Halo, a Filipino variation on the classic shaved ice, featured boba-type stuff at the bottom, ice cream, and a random piece of flan on top! Yes, you read that right! FLAN!!

I was so excited, I forgot to take a picture until this point! Oops!!

Besides the delicious offerings, I love that Bleu Garten has stuff to do! There was a live band to listen to, cornhole games, and GIANT JENGA!!

Here we are with some friends playing! Photo cred: Brianna Dodd! It was super fun! I always like food/drink places that have activities!

Bottom line: If you live in OKC or are planning a visit soon, go to Bleu Garten! It’s the perfect summer hangout! Bonus: You can bring the dog! We would, but our sweet Sheltie suffers from anxiety around crowds! Kids are also welcome before a certain time! Our toddler godson was there for a while!

Hope you had a fun Thursday like we did! Let me know if you love Bleu Garten, or drop a different OKC recommendation in the comments!

Lent Has Begun!

Happy Saturday, everyone!

We had a fun week of Valentine’s Day, but Hubs and I were a little more concerned with the beginning of Lent on Ash Wednesday. What are the odds of having to fast on a holiday, right? πŸ˜›

We did it, of course! I gave up sweets, while Hubby gave up both red meat (yes, not just on Fridays!) and Facebook. After an early morning Ash Wednesday service at St. Paul’s, we took advantage of the weekday morning downtown and got our one meal of the day at Hatch! If you are an OKC area person, you know that the wait there is absolutely ridiculous during brunch. Wednesdays at 7:45 am are a different story! We were seated right away, and boy oh boy, was it fabulous! We ordered some awesome fried potato nuggets (without the bacon) for an app!

Mmmmm!!! So good! Then we both had the salmon eggs Benedict, since other meat is a no-no on Ash Wednesday! It might have been the best Benedict of my life, and I’m a brunch regular! The eggs were perfectly poached, and the fried capers added a fun twist!

10/10 would recommend!! Go if you ever have a weekday morning off and enjoy it!

Hatch is also incredibly cute! Those colors!!!

So, our meal on Ash Wednesday is nowhere near as important as the meaning behind Lent. I think that the whole idea of sacrifice is beautiful, whether you are religious or not. No matter what you believe, I challenge you to do something sacrificial to benefit someone else. Whether that’s sacrificing your time to volunteer, sacrificing money for a worthy cause, or simply sacrificing your pride when you realize you are wrong, we can all do something selfless to help others. While I’m sacrificing my sweet tooth for a bit, I also strive to focus on service. I hope y’all join me and do the same!

Do you observe Lent?

Even if you don’t, what is your favorite way to serve others?

Let me know in the comments!!

Happy Birthday to Me!!Β

Hey, y’all!! It is good to be back! The last 6 weeks or so have been insane and filled with some unfortunate situations. I took a couple weeks off blogging just to catch up with life, but I’m back and ready to go! 😊

Today is Thanksgiving, and I wish you all a happy one! I will post about our family festivities later! Tuesday, however, was my birthday! They say to never ask a lady her age, but I’ll just tell you that I turned 26! I am actually so excited to get closer to 30! Many struggle with aging, but I see age as stability and wisdom!

Not bad for 26! Loving the new MAC lipstick I got for my birthday! I’m wearing Ruby Woo!

I was lucky enough to have my birthday on my “Friday” before the holiday weekend! I started with a work gathering at Louie’s to celebrate the break! Then, we got to my intimate but fabulous birthday celebration at Sushi Neko! If you live in the OKC Metro and have not been, GO NOW! It is my favorite restaurant in the area! We had four friends meet us, and we had a great time! I definitely did not get enough pictures, but here’s what I have!

This was our appetizer! Lobster and other goodies! So delicious!

My favorite roll of all time, the Lifesaver! It has the raw salmon and tuna I love, and the crowning jewel on the inside is TEMPURA BACON! The lemon on top adds the perfect tang! I have eaten lots of sushi in many places over the years, and this continues to be my favorite!

We are a pretty hot walrus couple! Don’t tell my old etiquette class or my mom! πŸ˜‚

Not pictured: My all-time favorite dessert, tempura ice cream! I was so excited that I forgot to take a pic before diving in! #bloggerfail

After that, a few of us went over to Nancy’s 57th St. Lighthouse for some karaoke! I love going there, because the drinks are reasonable, the seats are super comfy, and karaoke is every day!! I absolutely love to sing, even though I am not quite Broadway status! πŸ˜› It was a great time! My friend Jess and I took it back to our college days and sang ridiculous duets all night! We used to go to Buffalo Wild Wings in college and sing bad renditions of early 2000s pop songs! It was a nice trip down memory lane, even if we were the only ones who thought so! πŸ˜‚

It was such a great birthday! I’m excited to see what 26 holds! Now I’m off to gorge on turkey!!

Happy Thanksgiving!
